Team India has a new training uniform that replicates the renowned Dutch Orange worn by The Netherlands football team ahead of their opening World Cup match against Australia in Chennai. The training kit for the team, affectionately known as the Men in Blue, has previously included numerous colours, including red and grey. But for the past ten years, they have primarily only worn blue clothing, which is a shade deeper than their match colour.
However, this is the first time India has worn a training kit in the colour orange. Before this, India took the field against the hosts in England during the 2019 World Cup donning a saffron-colored t-shirt and navy blue leggings because the ICC had made having home and away uniforms necessary.
While the training jersey isn’t available for sale, the Indian cricket team match jersey for all three formats can be bought here.
Why did Adidas opt for an orange kit?
India has been sporting a black training uniform since the new kit partner Adidas joined the team in June. In the traditional blue colour, the German firm has also released new World Cup apparel. As the black colour is known to absorb more heat than the light colours, which could possibly be the explanation for the colour shift, this orange uniform is most likely to be used during the World Cup.
India held their first official training session on Thursday after arriving in Chennai on Wednesday. Before taking on a challenging spell from Mohammed Shami, Virat Kohli began the game with a throwdown exercise with head coach Rahul Dravid. R Ashwin too had a lengthy batting session in the nets as Shreyas Iyer was facing Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav at the other net.
