Sam Konstas’ Instagram account was filled with Indian fans wishing him the same death as Phil Hughes
With disgusting insults surfaced during the first day of the New Year’s Test, the commotion surrounding Sam Konstas and Jasprit Bumrah has taken a dark turn.
Since Konstas took the field for the first time at the Boxing Day Test, the fiercest personal competition in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series has been between the courageous Australian teenager and fast-bowling destroyer.
On and off the field, sledges have been flying in all directions, but on Friday night, the storm went too far when it was revealed that the opening batter had been the target of horrifying cyberbullying.

The Australian youngster Sam Konstas and the Indian fast Jasprit Bumrah had to be separated in the last over of the day’s play at the SCG.
Bumrah threw his hands in the air as Usman Khawaja moved back from the stumps just as he was about to charge in with the second final ball. As they approached each other, Konstas expressed his displeasure and gave Bumrah a hard time. With the penultimate ball of the day, the Indian star took out Khawaja, giving him the last laugh.

As the Australian openers left the SCG to finish the day, Bumrah turned at once and looked down at Konstas as the edge was snapped up in the slips cordon.
Adam Gilchrist said, “Konstas is engaging, going at him. I don’t really know if it’s much of his business to get involved, the young man. He’s riled them here, Konstas.”
Isa Guha said, “This kid has no fear. Just his second Test match, he knows all about game management.”
Australia rolled India for 185 to end the exciting first day at 1/9. Long after the players had left the field, Konstas was still the target of hatred. In a horrible turn of events, several Indian social media users demanded that Konstas be treated the same way Phillip Hughes was, alluding to how Hughes ended up losing his life after being hit by a bouncer on the cricket pitch. This isn’t the first time Indian fans have resorted to horrid abuse on Instagram towards opposition players though with death and r*pe threats to wives and girlfriends of cricketers being way too common.

“You should the tweets from Indian fans encouraging bumrah to give him the Phillip Hughes treatment, absolutely disgusting,” One X user wrote.
Another cricket fan posted: “I love a bit of sports banter but some of these comments from Indian supporters are despicable.”
