Indian Army At The Olympic Games: Athletes From The Army Who Are Participating In The Tokyo Olympics 2021

The role of the Indian Army is not only to protect us from enemies but they also participate in sports and the Olympic Games

Sometimes one of the best athletes come from the Indian Army and represent India in international tournaments like the Olympics. And like every Olympics, this year as well some of the players from the army have qualified for the Olympic Games. So let’s have a look at them.

Athletes from the Indian Army Who Have Qualified for the Tokyo Olympic Games 2021

1.  Amit Panghal (Boxing)

He holds the rank of a Subehdar in the Mehar regiment of the Indian Army. During the 2019 World Boxing Championship, Panghal had won a silver medal and during the 2020 World Cup, he had won a gold medal. He would be participating in the 52 kg category in the Tokyo Olympics and is also one of India’s hope of winning a medal in boxing.

2. Manish Kaushik (Boxing)

He holds the rank of a Joint Commissioned Officer in the Indian Army. During the 2018 Commonwealth Games, he had won a silver medal and during the 2019 World Championship, he had won a bronze medal. He qualified for the Olympics by beating Garside in the qualification round. He would be participating in the 63kg category in the Tokyo Olympics. He also became the last Indian boxer to have qualified for the games.

3. Satish Kumar (Boxing)

He has been serving in the Indian Army since 2008. He has participated in many national and international boxing events. During the 2014 Asian Games, he had won a bronze medal in the heavyweight category and during the 2018 Olympics, he had won a silver medal. He qualified for the Tokyo Olympics by defeating Otgonbayer Daivii, during the Asian Boxing Olympics Qualifier and he would be participating in the 91kg category.

4. Avinash Sable (Athletics)

He has been serving in the Mahar Regiment of the Indian Army. During the 2021 Federation Cup, which was held in Patiala, he participated in the 3000m steeplechase and completed the race in 8:20.21 seconds. During the 2019 Asian Athletics Championships, he had won a silver medal and he would be hoping to break his own record in the Tokyo Olympics.

5. Neeraj Chopra (Athletics)

He holds the rank of a Junior Commissioned Officer and has been serving in the Indian Army since 2016. During the Indian Grand Prix, which was held in March 2021, he participated in Javelin throw, and he threw it in 88.07m. During the 2018 Asian Games, he had won a gold medal for the same.
