Indian Archer Deepika Kumari Wins Gold Medal At Archery World Cup Stage 3

Deepika Kumari along with her husband, Atanu Das won the gold medal in the recurve mixed team event in the Archery World Cup, which is currently being held in Paris

Deepika is an Indian archer who is currently ranked as World No. 9. But she also once was the World No. 1 player. During the 2010 Commonwealth games, she had won a gold medal in the individual recurve event. In the same competition she had also won a gold medal for the women’s team recurve event with Dola Bannerjee and Bombayala Devi.

Deepika Kumari and Atanu Das Win Gold Medal At Archery World Cup 2021 Ahead of the Tokyo Olympics

It was raining gold for the Indian archers during the third stage of the World Cup on Sunday, as the star archery couple Atanu Das and Deepika Kumari had won the mixed team event and especially after the women’s recurve team victory couldn’t help them to qualify for the Olympics. Both Atanu and her came back, when they were 0-2 to throw the Netherland’s Sjef van den Berg and Gabriela Schloesser were 5-3 and went on to win the third gold medal for India in the competition.

This win cameย  after the women’s recurve team’s Deepika, Ankita Bhakat, and Komalika Bari had also won the gold medal for the women’s recurve team and had won against Mexico. This win was really important for them as they had missed the opportunity for qualifying for the Olympics last week.

Deepika and Atanu had dated each other for two years and then got married to each other. Their wedding anniversary is on June 30.

Deepika said, “I feel happy too.” She had led the women’s team to win a second gold medal at the World Cup this year.

How Did Deepika and the women’s recurve team emerge victorious?ย 

The Indian archery team have won a total of three gold medals, as archer Abhishek Verma had already won a gold medal in the individual event on Saturday.

Initially, in the first stage of the World Cup Final, the trio of Deepika, Ankita and Komalika had defeated the Mexican team by 5-1 and they didn’t even drop a single set.

They have won the Gold medal twice in the World Cup this year, and overall for the sixth time. They have earlier won the gold medal in the Shanghai 2011, Medellin 2013, Wroclaw 2013, Wroclaw 2014, and Guatemala 2021 World Cups.

Deepika played consistently well. The trio were struggling to win a gold medal against the same team in Guatemala around two months back, were in their top most form as they shot four 10’s with a single X and the score in the first set was 57-57.

The Indian archery team had put pressure on the Mexican team, which consisted of 2012 London silver medallist Aida Roman, Alejandra Valencia and Ana Vasquez.

The opponent team had shot a poor 52 and they lost the second set by three points. The Indian side was leading by 3-1 and were quite consistent in the next round but the Mexican team was unable to even come close and lost the last round by one point. This was their second defeat this year.
