Chess has always showcased Indians winning at numerous international chess competitions. Recently Abhimanyu Mishra grandmaster obliterated the long-standing chess record made by Sergey Karjakin, this was a 19-year-old record. Sergey Karjakin made this record at the age of 12 years and seven months. India’s R Praggananandhaa three years ago was close to make a record but missed it by a whisker. The record broken by Indian-American Abhimanyu Mishra was a 19 year old one.

Abhimanyu Mishra is a 12-year-old boy who originates from India and is living in America with his father and mother. He was born on 5 February 2009. Abhimanyu’s father has played an integral role in introducing him to the game of chess. At the age of 2.5 years, his father played the first chess game with him. To chase the grandmaster title Abhimanyu and his father were camping from April in Budapest.

Abhimanyu Mishra is from New Jersey and he scored his GM norm for the third time in Budapest. Winning the grandmaster title was the biggest achievement in Abhimanyu’s career to date. He won the prestigious title by defeating GM Leon Luke. His victory was announced on Chess.com. He has scored an Elo rating above 2500.

Abhimanyu has been trained by grandmaster Garry; his father stated that at the young age of 12 having Garry as a mentor is dreamy. Also, his parents added that this day is probably the best day they have seen ever in their lives. They have been waiting for this to happen for quite a long while; finally, their son has achieved it.
The biggest obstacle faced by Abhimanyu during the initial days of his chess career was his age. When he began playing chess matches he used to compete with players that were generally 5 times older than him. Abhimanyu after winning stated, “I didn’t win because I am the best, I have won because you don’t know enough about endgames”.
