The India women’s football team will compete in two international friendly against Egypt and Jordan, know the schedule of the 2022 fixtures

The All India Football Federation announced that the Indian women’s squad will play two international friendlies in April, against Egypt and Jordan.

The Indian women’s football team will compete in a three-way friendly tournament alongside teams from Jordan and Egypt. The Jordan Football Association will host the event at Prince Mohammed Stadium in Zarqa from April 5 to 11.

First Appearance After Asian Cup

This tri-nation tournament would be India’s first appearance since the Asian Cup, where the team was forced to withdraw after only one match due to positive Covid-19 instances in the team. It’s worth noting that the competition is taking place during FIFA-approved days, allowing professional players from other countries to join the national squad.

The matches will take place in Jordan on April 5 (against Egypt) and April 8 (against Jordan).

Team News

Following the tri-nation friendlies, the Blue Tigresses will join their respective clubs for the upcoming Hero IWL season.

Thomas Dennerby, the head coach, had previously announced a 30-man group that will fly to Jordan for the friendly. Since March 28, the squad has been training in Goa. A few members of the Indian U-18 Women’s Team, which recently won the SAFF U-18 Women’s Championship for the first time, have also been named in the team. Astam Oraon, Apurna Narzary, and Martina Thokchom are among them.

After winning the league stage for the third time, India won the SAFF U-18 Women’s Championship for the first time in their history. The youthful Blue Tigresses were defeated 0-1 by Bangladesh in their last match, but won the title on goal difference.
