The five full members of the Asian Cricket Council — Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka — secured automatic qualification. They will be joined by the United Arab Emirates, who earned their spot by finishing at the top of the 2024 ACC Men’s Premier Cup.
According to emerging reports, the Asia Cup 2025 will begin on September 10, with both India and Pakistan expected to participate despite earlier tensions following the terror attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir. Sources suggested that the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) was preparing to announce the tournament’s official schedule in early July. If these plans materialize, the participating nations would include India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and the UAE, with the UAE likely to serve as the neutral host.
While officially nothing has been confirmed yet, promotional material for the 2025 Asia Cup has already been initiated in the background.
The 2025 edition will be played in the T20 format with live streaming of the tournament on Sony Sports and SonyLIV in India.
The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) is likely to take a final call on the Asia Cup next week and the official schedule for the tournament could be released in the first week of July. The tournament is expected to start in the second week of September, most likely on 10 September and while India vs Pakistan is likely to take place in the tournament, the match’s date or venue isn’t known yet. However, it is likely the match will take place in UAE if it goes ahead and will take place in mid of September, 2025.

Discussions had also reportedly been underway regarding a hybrid model, as India had originally been designated the host. However, the ACC had previously decided that whenever either India or Pakistan were named hosts, the matches would be shifted to a neutral venue to avoid diplomatic complications. Earlier, calls had been raised within Indian political and media circles urging the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to withdraw from playing Pakistan in global tournaments. These demands intensified after India’s Operation Sindoor, which had targeted terror camps in Pakistan and PoK.
However, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia clarified that no such withdrawal was being considered. He maintained that the topic had not surfaced in any official discussions and dismissed such reports as speculative in nature. India’s long-standing policy of not engaging in bilateral cricket with Pakistan remained unchanged. Their encounters continued to be limited to multinational tournaments, the last notable one being at the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is currently the favourite to host the tournament and there are also talks about having a hybrid model. India is the official host this time but the Asia Cup is usually moved to a neutral venue when India or Pakistan are slated to host due to political tensions.
Despite the controversy, members of the cricketing community and fans alike appeared to be closely watching developments, especially with the possibility of an India-Pakistan clash, which continues to remain one of the most anticipated spectacles in world cricket.
