The five-match series against Australia starting from May 18 will also serve as a preparatory camp for the Indian women's hockey team ahead of the Asian Games. 🏑🇮🇳

The five-match series is all set to take place starting from May 18 to 27 and will help the team prepare for the upcoming Hangzhou Asian Games 2023, which is scheduled to take place in September-October.

Indian women’s hockey team 2023 tour of Australia

In the first three games of the series, team India will play against the Australian senior women’s team. They will then two matches against Australia A. All the five matches are set to be played out at the MATE Stadium in Adelaide. Interestingly, the Australian women’s hockey team is currently ranked third in the world while India is ranked in eighth place.

Previous meetings

Ahead of the upcoming five-match series, India met the three-time Olympic gold medallists Australia in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. India stunned the Australian team 1-0 in the women’s hockey quarter-finals. The two teams then met each other in the Commonwealth Games 2022 semi-finals in Birmingham. However, Australia managed to win in that game via a penalty shoot-out.

Going into the series, team India are currently in good form having won the FIH Women’s Nations Cup in December after defeating host nation Spain in the final. The Indian women’s hockey team is currently training at the national coaching camp at SAI, Bengaluru for the upcoming competition.

Earlier this year, the Indian women toured South Africa in a four-match series. They registered impressive 5-1, 7-0, and 4-0 victories in the opening three games with the fourth game ending in a 2-2 draw.

Indian women’s hockey team 2023 tour of Australia schedule

The Indian women will open the upcoming tour with their first match scheduled on May 18. They will then play back-to-back games on May 20 and 21. Following which the visitors will then compete against Australia A on May 25 and 27. Given below is the schedule:
