Earlier, on Thursday, August 8, the Indian hockey team secured a record extending 13th Olympic medal after they defeated Spain 2-1 at the Paris Olympics. With this triumph, the Indian hockey team became the most decorated team in the history of the event.

The national team at the Yves de Manoir Stadium bagged back-to-back medals for the first time since 1972.
During the first two set of the game, both teams were performing equally with score being tied at 0-0 and 1-1 respectively. However, in the third set, India took the lead and defeated Spain with a score of 2-1 and created history!
Let us remind you, this is Indiaโs second consecutive bronze at the Olympics in hockey, as the national team, previously bagged bronze medal after winning against Germany 5-4 at the Tokyo Olympics 2020. However, at the time, team India lost to Belgium in semi-finals.
PR Sreejesh Announces Retirement
Following the Paris Olympics Games, goalkeeper, PR Sreejesh, a former national team captain had announced his retirement from the sport. Sreejesh, widely acknowledged for his outstanding saves throughout the competition, the 36-year-old played a pivotal role against Great Britain in quarterfinals.

During the match against Great Britain PR Sreejeshโs heroics shootout helped the team securing a 4-2 victory. In total 8 matches, PR Sreejesh faced 62 shots and he successfully saved 50 of them.
Standing at 1.84 m (6 ft 0 in), Sreejesh, also played a pivotal role in Indiaโs bronze medal win at the Tokyo Olympics 2020.
Meanwhile, another player, Amit Rohidas played a crucial role in the Indian defense, particularly as the first rusher during Penalty Corner situations.
Previously, he was also the part of India hockey squad who won bronze at the Tokyo Olympics 2020.
