As per the Athletic’s, Shams Charania, “Udoka had an improper intimate and consensual relationship with a female member of the team staff.”
It’s actually a big issue for the franchise since it is a violation of the code of conduct the franchise has. Furthermore, Udoka has been in a relationship with Nia for a long time now.
Though it’s uncertain if the duo are still together. As per various reports, when Udoka had the relationship with the said female team staff member, it didn’t stop people from pointing out how the Celtics head coach made a big mistake.
Udoka and Nia started dating each other back in 2010. The duo had a child in 2011. Later they got engaged in 2015, though the couple didn’t seem to have a plan to get married.
But they do have been supportive of each other. In fact, during the NBA Finals 2022 between the Celtics and Golden State Warriors, Nia was even seen dancing around in celebration.
The details of Ime Udoka’s relationship scandal are murky and it would be wrong to jump into conclusions. However, as the reactions on Twitter have shown, it is certainly not a good look for the Celtics’ head coach.
It still remains to be seen how the Celtics discipline the 45-year-old professional basketball coach, though a suspension has been mentioned with the team but the length of it is yet to be decided.
According to a report by ESPN, a suspension is imminent and could be handed out as soon as on Thursday itself.
As per the same report, Boston is handling the situation internally and the professional basketball coach is not facing scrutiny from the league itself.
Speaking of his career at Celtics, Udoka led the team to the NBA Finals where they ultimately lost to the Golden State Warriors in 6 games.
Ime Udoka previously served as an assistant coach for the San Antonio Spurs from 2012 to 2019.
Later he served under Philadelphia 76ers from 2019 to 2020 and Nets from 2020 to 2021, following a 7-year playing career in the NBA.
