Prediction
With a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Sloane Stephens in the second round, Swiatek was completely dominant in the second round. Iga had a 63% first serve percentage in that match and went on to win 77% of the time. She performed an excellent job of breaking Sloane’s serve in the game, and as a result, she received 25 points to 15 receiving points. She won five straight games to completely dominate the game and clinch it.
In the four sets that she has played thus far, Swiatek has only lost a total of eight games. The opponent has not yet had a response since she has controlled the return game. The Pole hasn’t had the finest recent performances, missing easy opportunities and losing the drive she showed earlier in the year. She yet maintains the reputation as one of the favourites to take home the prize and appears to be getting back on track.
On the other hand, following a difficult match against seed number 28 Ekaterina Alexandrova, Lauren entered the third round of the US Open. She blew the first set, dropping it 0-6 but, she battled back to win the second, 6-4. Davis prevailed 10-5 in a thrilling tiebreaker to win the final set. Despite a 50% first serve percentage, Davis won that match with a lead of 57–54 service points even though both players combined for 18 double faults. Davis has now won two thrilling three-set matches after walking over Lucia Bronzetti with a score of 4-6, 7-6, 5-4.
To begin the match, Swiatek hasn’t dropped four games in a row. Her confidence will undoubtedly increase after victories over Sloane Stephens and Jasmine Paolini, and if she starts serving well, she will undoubtedly advance all the way. The relationships Lauren has had so far have been tense, and she had a difficult draw, to begin with. Swiatek’s campaign will likely end here into the next round.
