With a score of 1-1, Garcia defeated the Pole in their most recent meeting at the WTA Warsaw tournament in 2022 to move to the semifinals.
Prediction
Iga Swiatek, who is taking part in her second WTA Finals, is off to a much better start than she was last year. She faced Daria Kasatkina in the opening match, which she easily won 6-2, 6-3 without even breaking a sweat. In 2022, the 21-year-old Pole, who is currently 65-8, won with ease and efficiency.
Swiatek arrived in Texas slow and ready to cap the year off well. In her most recent three events, the US Open, WTA Ostrava, and the San Diego Open, she advanced all the way to the final. If her victory over Kasatkina in the opening round is any indicator, she stands a decent chance of winning. In the 83-minute encounter, Iga won an astounding 82% of the points following the first serve, with 22 winners to Kasatkina’s 4. She did make 18 unintended errors, though, and Garcia might not overlook them.
On the other hand, In the Group Tracy Austin round, Caroline Garcia defeated Cori Gauff in straight sets with a score of 6-4, 6-3 to prove she’s serious. Additionally, she was a little aggressive with Swiatek, making 23 unforced mistakes while giving 12 wins. Garcia has had a very decent season this year. Considering that she didn’t even make the top 70 at the start of the year, her current ranking of No. 6 which is remarkable.
Her first half of the season was largely uneventful. It wasn’t until she won the title at Bad Homburg in June that she began to show signs of improvement. That initiated a comeback, which resulted in performances in the late rounds of the US Open, Lausanne, and Palermo.
Caroline also brought home medals from the Poland Open and the Cincinnati Open. The fact that Garcia did so on Swiatek’s home court in Warsaw makes her one of the few players in 2022 to have done so. This is also significant. Can she reclaim victory? Well, expecting a very high quality match between the two but Swiatek will be entering the match as a heavy favourite.
