Prediction

Iga Swiatek, the 2022 French Open champion, will square off against World No. 6 Aryna Sabalenka in the 2022 US Open quarterfinals on Thursday.

Swiatek required three sets to defeat Jule Niemeier in the fourth round after winning in straight sets over Jasmine Paolini, Sloane Stephens, and Lauren Davis. In the quarterfinals, the No. 1 player faced Jessica Pegula. Swiatek defeated Pegula 6-3, 7-6 to advance to her third Slam semifinal of the year.

On the other hand, Catherine Harrison was defeated easily by Sabalenka to start her campaign. She then defeated Clara Burel and Danielle Collins to get to the quarterfinals where she faced 2016 US Open champion Karolina Pliskova after saving a few match points during her triumph against Kaia Kanepi in the second round. With a convincing 6-1, 7-6 (4) victory against Karolina Pliskova, Sabalenka of Belarus advanced back to the US Open semifinals.

They will meet for the fourth time this year at this time. Sabalenka faces a challenge after Swiatek won the previous three matches in straight sets. Based on her most recent performance, Sabalenka will likely feel confident, but she will need to step up her game if she wants to defeat Swiatek. Although the World No. 1 has perfected her strategy, the Belarusian’s hard-hitting style of tennis frequently overwhelms her opponents. To have a chance of winning, she will need to either switch up her strategy or carry out her normal plan flawlessly.

Sabalenka hopes to advance to her first Grand Slam final whereas Swiatek has already won two Major championships. Her nerves could once again hurt her, as it did in the semifinal match against Leylah Fernandez last year. Swiatek’s performance this year makes it difficult to imagine her losing in the end.
