Swiatek defeated Caroline Garcia and Daria Kasatkina in straight sets to win her group and advance to the semifinals. She faced Coco Gauff in the final round of matches. The teenager faced a few break points early in the opening set, but she was unable to take advantage of them since the World No. 1 was able to hold serve. Then, on her way to winning four straight games and the set, Swiatek broke her opponent’s serve twice. The second set saw even more twisted play, which the Pole won 6-3, 6-0.

On the other hand, in her first group match, Sabalenka overcame Ons Jabeur in three sets before losing to Maria Sakkari in straight sets. The next match she had to win was against Jessica Pegula. Sabalenka successfully broke serve in the first game of the match. She increased her lead to 5-2 with one more break. The Belarusian dropped her service and was unable to win the set despite having four set points while serving for it. She broke her opponent’s serve in the very next game to take the set. Sabalenka gained an early break in the second set to go up 2-0, but Pegula immediately levelled the score.

The World No. 7 then got another break to lead 5-3 in the eighth game, but she was broken again in the following game, making it impossible for her to serve out the match. Sabalenka won the match and made her first semifinal appearance by defeating Pegula 6-3, 7-5 and breaking Pegula’s serve once more.

Since Swiatek has a solid understanding of Sabalenka’s serve, she can take the ball early and put pressure on her opponent. As a result, the Belarusian is put on the defensive and regularly commits blunders.
