Mukul Arya, the 36-year-old Indian representative in Palestine who died on March 6th, was a member of the Indian Foreign Service. He was India’s envoy in Palestine, Ramallah.

While the reason for 2008-batch IFS Mukul Arya’s untimely death is unknown, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar expressed his condolences on Twitter. Indian minister of external affairs, S Jaishankar described Mukul Arya as a “young and talented officer” in his tweet, writing,
Deeply shocked to learn about the passing away of India’s Representative at Ramallah, Shri Mukul Arya. He was a bright and talented officer with so much before him. My heart goes out to his family and loved ones. Om Shanti.
On Sunday, Palestine’s senior leadership expressed shock at the sudden demise at the office of India’s Representative to the State of Palestine, Mukul Arya.
They wrote in a statement,
As soon as this painful news arrived, immediate instructions were issued from President Mahmoud Abbas and Prime Minister Muhammad Shtayyeh to all the security, police and public authorities, in addition to the Ministry of Health and Forensic Medicine, to immediately move to the place of residence of the Indian ambassador to closely monitor the case of death.
In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants expressed regret, loss, and pain at Representative Arya’s passing. The ministry also stated that it is in communication with the Indian Foreign Ministry to finalize procedures for the return of Mukul Arya’s dead remains to India.

Before entering the Indian Foreign Service, Mukul Arya earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from Delhi University and a master’s degree from Jawaharlal Nehru University. He has also attended Lee Kuan School for a masters in public administration and public policy from 2019 to 2020.
The 36 year old who was born in 1986 grew up in Delhi. He did his MA in Economics from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) in 2005-2007 and graduation from Delhi University. Between 2017 and 2019, Mukul Arya served in the Economic Diplomacy Division of the Ministry of External Affairs and was also a member of India’s Permanent Delegation to UNESCO in Paris.
Mukul Arya formerly worked as a foreign official in the Ministry of External Affairs New Delhi headquarters. He has previously served in the Indian embassies in Kabul and Moscow. The intricate details of his family are not public but he was married.
