The football gods went crazy with the mourinho vs guardiola script. Mourinho wanting the barcelona job and then losing it to pep, Mourinho then beating pep on route to win a cl and then signing for barcelona greatest rivals to add to that intensity. Both managers have very contrasting styles with the Spaniard’s soccer philosophy obviously being his trump card while some people have always felt a connection with The Special One’s quirky and unorthodox ways.
Following the release of the top 50 world’s best coach ranking by the IFFHS, it looks like the debate between Guardiola and Mourinho is finally over.
IFFHS reveals all-time ranking of world’s best coach
The International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS) recently ranked the 50 best football coaches from 1996 to 2022. The IFFHS ranked the coaches based on the top 20 national team and club coaches by year. Each coach received points based on each position:
“The first placed received 20 points, the second placed 19 points, the third placed 18 points …. And 1 point for the twentieth place. If the annual ranking comprised fewer than 20, no point will be awarded for the unoccupied places. Adding the points from the individual years of each category provides an IFFHS ALL TIME WORLD’S BEST COACH Ranking from 1996 to 2022.”
According to the ranking system, neither Mourinho nor Guardiola topped the list. That honor went to Manchester United icon Sir Alex Ferguson who topped the list with 257 points.
As for the Pep vs. Mourinho debate, the Portuguese finished with a slight upper hand. Mourinho finished behind the Scottish legend with 242 points. Meanwhile, Guardiola ranked third with 221 points.
