As per reports emanating from the world of cricket, the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 has gotten a new venue with India no longer the host country
After the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League was shifted to UAE from India for the remainder of the season, fingers were pointed on if India would remain the hosts for the ICC T20 World Cup as well.
Originally slated to be held in the Asian country in October of this year, the chances of the world cup going as per plans were fast dwindling. It was down to the calamitous second wave of Coronavirus in the country, one which resulted in the IPL being stalled as well.
While the situation has massively improved as things stand in India with COVID cases regressing unabatedly, a third wave looks impending owing to the gargantuan 130 crore population. And in a bid to stave off any medical uncertainties by conducting the competition in India, the T20 World Cup is being shifted to a new venue.
ICC T20 World Cup 2021 Gets New Venue And Schedule
As per ESPNCricinfo, the 2021 instalment of the marquee event will now be conducted in UAE. While India will continue to remains the hosts, the tournament will no longer be played in the country.
The schedule for the event is out as well as per the report with the competition set to get underway from October 17 and conclude on November 14. This would see the 16 team world cup get things started only days after the conclusion of the IPL whose final is set to be held on October 15.
The IPL be conducted in the country as well during the same timeframe is set to have weighed heavily on this decision. With a string of international names in the country at the moment, holding the world cup in the territory makes logistics extremely easy.
For India, no longer having the competition on their own soil comes across as a massive setback. The team is now devoid of the advantage it would have had of being acclimatised with its home conditions, supporters and having a colossal home crowd backing it vociferously.
