Know all about the prize money of the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2021 in UAE and Oman

The T20 World Cup is knocking on the doors as the tournament will kick off in Dubai on 17 October. Before the start of the tournament, International Cricket Council also known as ICC announced a massive prize pool for the upcoming tournament. The ICC T20 World Cup was one of the events which were postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Moreover, the tournament will take place in the UAE instead of in India.

So, here are all the details about the prize pool of the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup and the prize money distribution.

ICC T20 World Cup 2021 Prize Money: Everything You Need To Know

ICC revealed that the prize pool has a massive prize pool of $5.6 million. Moreover, there are a total of sixteen teams taking part in the tournament. Eight teams have already qualified for the Super 12 round, whereas the rest eight teams are divided into two groups of four each. The top two from both groups will be making it into Super 12.

The winner of the ICC T20 World Cup tournament will make around $1.6 million. Furthermore, the runner-up team will be receiving $800,000, while the rest two semi-finalists will get $400,000 each. Every team who registers a win in the Super 12 stg\age will be rewarded $40,000. A total of 30 matches are scheduled in the Super 12 stage where each team will play 5 each. The eliminated 8 teams from the Super 12 stage will get $70,000 each.

However, teams winning matches in Group stages will also receive $40,000. Also, the four teams which will not make it into the Super 12 stage will be receiving $40,000 each.

There are a total of 8 teams in Stage one, divided into two groups.

  • Winner: $1.6 million
  • Rubber-up: $800,000

Comparing these numbers with the previous T20 World Cup held in 2016, there is a huge downfall. Maybe this is because of the pandemic that affected the whole World. In the last edition, the Champions West Indies received $3.5 million whereas England was rewarded $1.5 million for being the runners-up.
