Aqib Ilyas of Oman was instrumental in keeping Bahrain to 106 for 9, collecting four wickets for just ten runs. In less than six overs, openers Kashyap Prajapati and Pratik Athavale easily chased down the goal.
Spinners Kushal Malla and Sandeep Lamichhane of Nepal bowled economically during the match, restricting the UAE to 134 for 9. Despite receiving minimal assistance from his colleagues, Vriitya Aravind was able to score fifty runs. Aasif Sheikh, the opener for Nepal, made history for his side by playing a match-winning, undefeated innings of 63 to ensure victory.
History for Nepal and Oman
Not only will Nepal be participating in the World Cup for the first time, which will take place in the United States and the West Indies next year, but it will also be Oman’s first time going beyond the preliminary round of the competition.
Nepal would be participating in the tournament for the second time; their sole previous experience came in 2014, when they were unable to go past the preliminary stage. Similarly, Oman would compete in the competition for the third time in 2024; their previous appearances were in 2016 and 2021, both of which they exited in the first round.
Up to now, 18 out of 20 spots have been taken.
Twenty teams will be participating in the event for the first time in its upcoming edition, which is the ninth since 2007. Five teams of four groups will be formed from the teams, and the top two players from each group will advance to the Super 8s.
So far, 18 teams have qualified for the competition. The Africa Qualifiers, which will take place in Namibia from November 22 to 30, will determine the final two slots. Games will be held in three US locations: Dallas, Florida, and New York, as well as in Antigua & Barbuda, Barbados, Dominica, Guyana, Saint Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and Trinidad & Tobago.
