India (2007)
The Indian cricket team led by young MS Dhoni shocked everyone by winning the Inaugural T20 World Cup. No one counted on India to win the World Cup in a format that is dominated by hitters. Most of the senior players of India were injured before the tournament and everyone assumed that India have no chance of winning the cup.
India defeated their arch-rivals Pakistan in a nail-biting final.
Pakistan (2009)
The Pakistani team which came so close to winning the Inaugural edition of the World Cup won their first-ever title after a couple of years. They defeated Sri Lanka at Lords. Umar Gul’s fantastic bowling performance throughout the tournament helped Pakistan clinch the T20 World Cup.
England (2010)
The English team won their first-ever World Cup in any format in 2010 when they defeated their arch-rivals Australia in a final at Kensington Oval. Captain Paul Collingwood’s incredible finishing made it possible for England.
West Indies (2012)
The Windies are known for their power game and showed their supremacy in the 2012 World Cup in Sri Lanka. The star-studded West Indies team made it difficult for any opposition to defeat them. In the finals, they posted a total of 139 runs against Sri Lanka in a sluggish wicket against Colombo. They won the final with 36 runs in the end.
Sri Lanka (2014)
The Lankan team came victorious against the in-form Indian team. MS Dhoni’s Indian team was undefeated in the whole tournament until they met Sri Lanka in the finals at Dhaka.
West Indies (2016)
West Indies lifted their 2nd title at the Eden Gardens against England. Carlos Brathwaite’s incredible finishing in the final over of Ben stokes where he smashed 4 back to back sixes are still fresh in everyone’s memory.
Australia (2021)
The 5 time champions of ODI world cups finally won their first ever title of T20 World Cup in 2021 at Dubai international Stadium.

Australia are hosting the T20 World Cup for the first time.
The prize money set for the T20 World Cup 2022 is $1,600,000 for the winners. Runners up will get $800,000
