The ODI World Cup 2023 begins and ends in Ahmedabad, but over the next three weeks, matches will also be played at nine other locations in nine other cities as ten teams compete for the prized championship that has only been won by six countries to yet.
In the course of 45 days, which also happens to be India’s monsoon season’s retreat, 48 matches will be played. Therefore, it’s possible for the weather to be uncooperative or for the floodlights to malfunction at specific periods.
Additionally, rain has put off team preparations, which will have an impact on the warm-up matches that started on September 29. Afghanistan vs. South Africa in Thiruvananthapuram was cancelled without even tossing the coin before Saturday’s rain-postponed India vs. England match in Guwahati and many more. The real concern is, the actual World Cup matches. What happens when rain interrupts them?
How long will the ICC World Cup 2023 match last?
In a daytime game, if the match begins at 10:30 AM, the first innings must be finished by 2 PM, and play will restart at 2:30 PM for the second innings, which must be finished by 6 PM, following a 30-minute break. In a day-night match, the first inning will begin at 2 PM and end at 5:30 PM, followed by a 30-minute break before the second inning begins at 6 PM and ends at 9:30 PM. (IST)
What if there is a disruption brought on by bad weather or any other unforeseen events?
All matches during the competition will have an additional 60 minutes to finish, except the semifinals and championship match, which will each have an additional 120 minutes, reports My Khel. This only applies when there is a disruption brought on by bad weather or another unforeseen event.
What occurs if the aforementioned match is not finished on the specified day? Is there any reserve day?
The Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) system will be used, whenever practicable, to determine the winner of rain-affected matches during the group stage of the 2023 Cricket World Cup. Points will be divided if the DLS method cannot be used (either team must have batted for at least 20 overs). For group-stage matches, there are no reserve days.
The day following the regular match day will act as the reserve day for the final and both semifinal matches.
