Tina Dabi, the district collector for Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, has come under fire for demolishing the homes of Hindu immigrants from Pakistan who had lived on government land.

According to reports, Dabi allegedly ordered the demolition of more than 50 temporary homes that were home to more than 150 people, including women and children.  In response, the impacted Hindu migrants in Jaisalmer held a protest by pitching tents outside Dabi’s home. They also expressed their disapproval of the anti-encroachment campaign and urged that their issues be taken into consideration.

In a statement to the media, Dabi gave the assurance that steps would be taken to rehabilitate the Hindu migrants from the other side of the border and that efforts were being made to set aside land for their relocation. However, now reports are coming that the state government of Rajasthan is also going to take action against her.

Who is Tina Dabi?

Tina Dabi is a well-known Indian IAS officer. She has been in the news because she was severely criticized for demolishing the homes of Hindu immigrants from Pakistan who had lived on government land.

She was born on November 9, 1993, in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. Her father’s name is Jaswant Dabi, who is the General Manager of BSNL, whereas her mother’s name is Himani Dabi, who is a former Indian Engineering Service (IES) officer. She also has a younger sister named Ria Dabi, who is also set to become an IAS officer.

After completing her schooling, Tina Dabi graduated in political science from Lady Shri Ram College for Women, New Delhi. Later, in 2016, she cracked the UPSC exam in her first attempt and eventually became an IAS officer. Later, she got trained at the Lal Bahadur Shastri National School of Administration in Mussoorie.

She married twice. She first married IAS officer Athar Aamir Khan. However, they got divorced after two years of marriage. Later, she married Pradeep Gawande, who is also an IAS officer.

She is currently 29 years old and is a Dalit Hindu by caste.

Her career

After training, Tina Dabi began working as an assistant secretary on deputation for the Ministry of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises of the Government of India. She started out in 2017 as an assistant collector in the Rajasthani city of Ajmer.

Later, she began serving as the Sub-Divisional Officer, or SDO, and Sub-Divisional Magistrate in Bhilwara, Rajasthan, on October 26, 2018. Subsequently, she was appointed CEO-Zila Parishad in Sri Ganganagar in July 2020.

In November 2021, she started working as a joint secretary at Jaipur’s Finance (Tax) Department. She was appointed the 65th District Collector and Magistrate of Rajasthan’s Jaisalmer district on July 6, 2022.
