In his book “Coaching Beyond: My Days with the Indian Cricket Team,” India’s former fielding coach R Sridhar said that Rishabh Pant’s stubbornness drove him insane. In his most recent book, the former coach wrote that when Pant came to the team, he did not accept any of his advice or recommendations regarding wicketkeeping. As of late December 2022, India’s wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant was forced to leave the team due to a terrible vehicle accident.

Sridhar has provided a thorough overview of his experience with the players. “There were some inputs he was a little reluctant to receive,” he wrote about Rishabh Pant. According to him, it was mostly because he had faith in the game that elevated him to this point. However, he admitted that at times, Pant’s tenacity drove him crazy. He had to think out a method to persuade Rishabh to try new things if only so he could determine whether they could be advantageous to his retention.

The 52-year-old continued by saying that Pant himself realised he needed to seek counsel rather than repeatedly doing what had previously worked for him. After some time, the wicketkeeper approached him and said, “Sir, you’re not saying anything. Tell me what to do, please. Sridhar responded, “Maybe you should lead with your head and not with your hands.”

Pant faced criticism early in his career for his inability to maintain wickets well at home in conditions that turned. Rishabh Pant, though, has developed into a crucial part of the Indian cricket team over the last couple of years. Thanks to both his excellent wicketkeeping and his valiant batting in difficult conditions abroad.

Who will lead India in BGT without Pant?

When India hosts Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Test series with a chance to go to the World Test Championship final, Rishabh Pant’s absence would be most detrimental to the team. Due to a car accident he experienced in December, Pant was unable to participate in the series. In order to fill his position, the selectors chose KS Bharat and Ishan Kishan.

With the kid having established himself as an aggressive Test hitter and a fourth-innings specialist, Pant’s omission goes beyond his improved wicketkeeping skills. When naming the “backbone” of India’s batting order, veteran spinner R Ashwin passed over both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, but he believes that India does have the right guy to fill in for Pant.
