Sachin Tendulkar was amongst one of the cricketers who came out in support of Mohammed Shami after he was subjected to vitriol by online trolls
After the Indian top order was blown apart inside the powerplay with the country losing three quick wickets, Rishabh Pant and Virat Kohli combined to script together a fightback.
While the 152 run target India put on the board after the torrid start wasn’t enough, it was one which offered the side a glimpse of a chance to put on a fight on the day. However, with Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Mohammed Shami sending down some sordid overs in between, any chance the India had of scrounging its way to a win quickly vanished up in smoke.
Sachin Tendulkar Lends Support To Mohammed Shami After He’s Abused By Online Trolls
While it was far from the ideal day for the Indian bowlers with no one apart from Jasprit Bumrah looking ominous, some of the abuse received online by the players was unwarranted. Shami in particular received the maximum brunt of the diatribe peddled out by trolls on the internet after he was smashed around the park for 17 runs.
A string of Indian cricketers including some notable names like Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag and VVS Laxman came out to publicly thrown their weight behind Shami ensuing the clash in the world cup.
When we support #TeamIndia, we support every person who represents Team India. @MdShami11 is a committed, world-class bowler. He had an off day like any other sportsperson can have.
I stand behind Shami & Team India.

Mohammed Shami has been a stellar performer for India for eight years, playing a significant role in many a victory. He can't be defined by one performance. My best wishes are always with him. I urge fans & followers of the game to support @MdShami11 and the Indian team.

Equally appalling were the visuals of a section of the Indian society bursting crackers as India was defeated on the day. Manifold areas in Delhi, Punjab and Kashmir saw scores of Pakistan supporting anti-nationals take to the streets as they burst crackers and danced to celebrate Pakistan’s win on the day in the T20 World Cup 2021 clash.
