The I-League, which began in 2007, is a professional league for Indian men’s association football clubs, know the 2022 points table and results
Since then, 21 clubs have played in the event, and it is still India’s top football league, despite the start of the Indian Super League raising some concerns.
The National Football League (NFL) was founded in 1996 with the goal of professionalizing Indian football. However, after 11 seasons, the I-League was established, and it quickly overtook the National Football League as the country’s major football tournament. The goal of the I-League was to professionalize and promote the game so that it could be played all across the country. Out of the eight competition editions thus far, the first six championships were won by a team from Goa.
How Does The I-League Work?
The competition uses a promotion and relegation system. The demoted teams compete in the I-League second tier. The games are split into two groups: home and away. Each year, the number of teams playing in the competition has fluctuated. Dempo S.C. is the most successful I-League team to date, having won the competition three times.
The competition is usually run over the course of 5 months, with matches taking place on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. Clubs from the I-League compete in the AFC Cup and AFC Champions League. No I-League club has ever qualified for the AFC Champions League. Despite the fact that the event has received a lot of criticism, it has continued to grow in popularity by broadcasting live matches in other places.

The League was stopped in January after multiple Corona instances, but resumed in March. Currently Mohammedan SC (Kolkata) is leading the points table with 3 straight wins followed by Gokulam Kerala FC and NEROCA FC.
