Angel di Maria has talked about why he faltered at Manchester United with him labelling Louis van Gaal the worst coach of his career
After years of signing players and trying to fill the number 7 role vacated by Cristiano Ronaldo 13 years back, Manchester United decided there was no one capable of filling into the Portuguese’s shoes. And the club decided to get Ronaldo back at the club to once again take over the onus of donning the prestigious jersey.
While the side is yet to affirm that Ronaldo will be wearing number 7 in his second spell in the Premier League, its a move the club is working fast towards. With Daniel James having departed for Leeds United, Edinson Cavani is set to take over the number 21 shirt James wore, one which Cavani wears at Uruguay as well.
It will open up the jersey for Ronaldo with the shirt set to be officially unveiled in the time to come. While the rightful claim to the coveted number has finally arrived at the club, there was a time when Angel di Maria was asked to take over the mantle.
Angel di Maria Opens Up On His Time At Manchester United
It was a disastrous spell for him at the club with him parting company with the side after only one season. The Argentine who now plays for PSG has opened up during his time at the club, talking about how he had no idea what the number 7 shirt meant at the club.
He’s also opened up on the traversity of a timing he endured at the team with him lambasting Louis van Gaal who he has gone onto label as the worst coach of his entire career.
“I didn’t give a f*** about the Manchester United No.7,” Angel di Maria said to Libero on TyC Sports.
The Argentine added: “My problem at Manchester was the coach. Van Gaal was the worst of my career.
“I would score, assist, and the next day he would show me my misplaced passes.
“He displaced me from one day to the other, he didn’t like players being more than him.”
