In the opening round of the 2023 Hylo Open, Sankar Muthusamy Subramanian, the silver medalist at the World Junior Championships, lost 21-16, 12-21, 10-21 against Julien Carraggi. On the other hand, Mithun Manjunath secured his place in the second round by defeating Italy’s Fabio Capanio with a score of 21-16, 21-8. In the second-round, Manjunath is set to face the second-seeded player, Lee Cheuk Yiu.

In their first-round women’s doubles tie, Rutaparna and Swetaparna lost by score of 15-21, 5-21 against the Chinese duo Liu Sheng Shu and Tan Ning. Malvika Bansod, currently ranked 50th in the women’s singles, received a walkover from Belgium’s world No. 41 Lianne Tan and will face against Brazil’s J Vieira in the second-round on Thursday. Meanwhile, in his men’s singles first-round game against Ng Angus, Kiran George lost by the score of 15-21, 22-20, 18-21.

Elsewhere, Indian duo Ashwini Ponnappa and Tanisha Crasto suffered a straight-set loss against the Indonesian duo Febriana Kusuma and Amallia Pratiwi. Notably, the Indonesian pair secured victory with a score of 21-15, 21-18 in just 48 minutes. Meanwhile, Spain’s Clara Azurmendi outplayed Indian shuttler Aakarshi Kashyap, defeating her with a score of 21-13, 21-16 in a swift 29-minute match.

2023 Hylo Open: net prize pool and monetary rewards

According to reports, the 2023 Hylo Open will reward the singles category winners with $15,750 as prize money. Meanwhile, the doubles category champions will receive a generous sum of $16,590. Conversely, those who secure the runner-up position in the singles category will be given a prize of $7,980. Regrettably, Sankar Muthusamy Subramanian and Aakarshi Kashyap, who were eliminated in the first round, will not receive any prize money.
