2022 Hungarian Darts Trophy Day 1 Results, Venue, Draw, Tickets, And Penultimate Day Schedule
Whitlock won easily 6-2 over host-nation qualifier Vegso to start his campaign. He scored six maximums and converted 122 and 147 finishes in back-to-back legs. In Budapest, though, Daryl Gurney turned in the day’s best performance, averaging 105.3 to defeat his countryman Nathan Rafferty 6-1.
On Friday, Stephen Bunting was also in outstanding shape and averaged 103.66 to defeat Callan Rydz and book a match with Nathan Aspinall, a previous UK Open champion, in the next round. In his 6-1 thrashing of Daniel Larsson, Bunting’s fellow St. Helens star Dave Chisnall turned on the flair, scoring a breathtaking 137 checkout to set up a tantalizing matchup versus Jonny Clayton.
A match with the Masters champion Joe Cullen awaits Martin Lukeman, who kept up his excellent European Tour form to defeat Ian White by a score of 6-4. Meanwhile, all four Hungarian participants lost in the first round after William O’Connor prevailed in a scrappy contest against Pal Szekely to create a match-up with 13th seed Dimitri Van den Bergh.
The competition’s second round will begin on Saturday with the entry of the seeded stars, and will end on Sunday with the third round in the afternoon session, followed by the quarterfinals, semifinals, and final in the evening session. Interwetten German Darts Open (ET11) will be held in the Sparkassen-Arena in Jena from September 9–11, following the culmination Hungarian Darts Trophy (ET10) in Budapest.
