The 28-year-old is being jailed in Latah County Jail for four charges of first-degree murder and one count of felony burglary.
Washington State University PhD student Kohberger is accused of stabbing to death four other college students, ages 21 to 20. Who were attending the University of Idaho: Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, Xana Kernodle, and Ethan Chapin, in the early hours of November 13, 2022.

It was stated by News Nation before the hearing that video recording would be permitted in the courtroom. But live streaming would not be. Bryan Kohberger was imprisoned in his parent’s home in Pennsylvania, 2,500 miles from the actual crime scene, before being extradited to Idaho last week.

Though no motive for the deaths has been revealed, the affidavit in this case, which was made public after the last hearing, provides specific information on how police were able to link Kohberger to the brutal murders and locate him.

The January 12 meeting is a status conference, the purpose of which is to schedule future court dates. In order to allow Bryan Kohberger more time to prepare his defence, the court may offer him the option of waiving his right to a quick trial. Or conducting a preliminary hearing.
Judge Megan Marshall will need to hear evidence from prosecutor Bill Thompson. That a crime was committed and that the defendant was responsible for it.
What will judge do in the case of Bryan Kohberger?
If the judge is persuaded, she will refer the case to the 2nd District Court of Idaho. Bryan Kohberger will thereafter appear in district court to face charges. Soon, he’ll be able to submit a plea in his own defence. If Kohberger pleads not guilty, the case will proceed to trial. If he pleads guilty, however, a hearing to determine his punishment will be convened.
Thompson has not said whether or not he will seek the death sentence in Bryan Kohberger’s case. No later than 60 days after Kohberger’s plea, he must submit written notification to the court of his intention to withdraw.
