Here is how deals from Chelsea, Tottenham and Liverpool boosted Brighton raise more money than £300 million last year and all their players sales and transfers

One may argue that Brighton is currently the best-run football team. The Seagulls are experts at buying players for incredibly low prices and then selling them for huge profit margins.

Moises Caicedo is the newest name to be added to that list, with the south coast club generating more than £100 million in profit. Caicedo was acquired from Independiente del Valle of Ecuador for just £4 million. For the 21-year-old, Liverpool will now spend £111 million.

Brighton has raised more than £300 million in the last year alone through player sales, but their on-field performance has not suffered. They earned their first-ever spot in the Europa League after finishing sixth in the previous campaign. The guy dubbed the “Godfather of Gambling,” Tony Bloom, owner of Brighton, is the mastermind behind everything. They did well even after losing manager Graham Potter in the middle of the previous campaign.

Despite some experts’ scepticism at his appointment, Roberto De Zerbi has turned out to be a revelation. What is the secret of Bloom? The 53-year-old sports betting entrepreneur has his own market-wide intelligence and analytical resources. Even members of the club are not allowed to know what the algorithm is.

With Caicedo going for only £4 million, Alexis Mac Allister for only £8 million, and Karou Mitoma from the J League going for just £3 million, the results are difficult to contest.

The club raised more over £100 million in player sales last summer, with Marc Cucurella going to Chelsea for £62 million being the marquee departure. In 2021, he moved to Brighton for just £15.4 million. Yves Bissouma joined Tottenham for £15 million in 2018, and was later sold to them for £25 million.

Having acquired Neal Maupay for £16 million from Brentford and then letting him move to Everton for £15 million, the club actually lost money on the deal. Leandro Trossard, who had been acquired from Genk for £18 million in 2019, was sold to Arsenal in January as part of a deal worth £27 million.

It was expected that more players would be sold this summer, with elite midfielders Caicedo and Mac Allister heading the charge. Caicedo will join Mac Allister for a British transfer record cost of £111 million. Mac Allister joined Liverpool at the beginning of the summer in a deal for up to £55 million.

Additionally, Brighton sold backup goalkeeper Robert Sanchez to Chelsea this summer for £25 million after he joined the team at the age of 15. With over £244 million of the sum coming from profits, that means the Seagulls have made £321 million in player sales in the past year alone.
