Some social media reports claim that RCB has been banned from IPL 2026

The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) may face a ban for the 2026 IPL season as a result of a stampede that claimed 11 lives during their IPL 2025 victory parade.

The management chose to celebrate at Chinnaswamy Stadium the next day after RCB had won the IPL title after an 18-year wait. However, a stampede that was allegedly brought on by congestion and inadequate crowd control turned the celebration into a tragedy.

In this case, Nikhil Sosale, the Bengaluru franchise’s marketing chief, has been taken into custody. Two senior Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) officials have also resigned from their positions, accepting moral responsibility for the incident.

Following the incident, the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), the event management firm DNA Entertainment, and the RCB were all the targets of formal complaints. Since then, RCB has filed a motion to have the FIR dismissed in the Karnataka High Court. Nikhil Sosale, the franchise’s marketing chief, was also taken into custody by the police.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) made it clear that the decision to celebrate the triumph was entirely organised by RCB.

But BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia said that despite it being a private event, the board would need to take action.

“It was a private affair of RCB, but we at the BCCI are responsible for cricket in India, and we will try to ensure such incidents do not recur in future,” he said.

Will RCB face ban?

Many allegations regarding possible repercussions for RCB have appeared on social media since the terrible tragedy. According to one social media account, RCB could not be allowed to play in the next IPL season. The X account @IPL2025auction spread the word about the allegation.

In its social media post, it wrote, “One-year ban for RCB. RCB may face a ban from IPL 2026 if found responsible for safety lapses in the Bengaluru stampede. Authorities are investigating the incident seriously.”

The BCCI has not formally announced a ban or sanctions against RCB while the investigation into the terrible incident is still underway. Furthermore, the IPL’s official Instagram account has not unfollowed the franchise, unlike what some social media users have claimed and neither is the alleged screenshot from BCCI’s site claiming RCB has been banned from IPL 2026 for one year going viral on social media platforms true.

IPL’s official page on Instagram has also not unfollowed the page of Royal Challenger’s Bengaluru as some reports claim with all rumors about the team being banned as punishment for the stampede which took place in Bengaluru during its victory parade false.
