Know Hardik Pandya’s experience as Indian captain

In recent years, Indian Men’s cricket team has been captained by several players across different formats. Although Rohit Sharma is currently serving as the captain across all formats, Hardik Pandya has guided the team in some ODI & T20 matches for which Rohit was either rested or injured. Throughout his two seasons as the captain of IPL club Gujarat Titans, Hardik led the team to two finals including one championship.

Recently, Pandya assumed captaincy of Indian squad during the second ODI of West Indies tour. Surprisingly, this match was Hardik’s second ODI as captain and unfortunately, this match resulted in a humilating defeat for India. Notably, Hardik’s first match as ODI captain took place in March 2023 when India clashed against Australia at Wankhede. In that match, India secured a comfortable victory as the visitors were bowled out after scoring just 189-runs and India managed to complete the chase with more than ten overs to spare.

How is Hardik Pandya’s record as Indian captain in T20I matches?

India has routinely selected Hardik as their captain for specific T20 bilateral matches. On India’s tour of Ireland in June 2022, Hardik captained India for the first time in a T20I match. In January 2023 Hardik suffered his first T20I defeat as captain after India lost against Sri Lanka by 16-runs. Overall, Hardik has led India in total of twelve T20I matches. Although many fans don’t consider Hardik as best candidate for future captaincy, he has showcased his potential with 66.7% T20I win percentage till now.
