Swiss billionaire Hansjorg Wyss is in the headlines because he might the new owner of Chelsea after the Russian owner Roman Abramovich came under scrutiny following the Russia-Ukraine crisis and Wyss getting the chance of buying the Premier League club.

According to Swiss newspaper Blick, Wyss told them that he along with three others are in connection to buy the Blues while Abramovich has placed the club into the “stewardship and care” of the Chelsea Foundation’s trustees. 

“Along with three other people, I received an offer on Tuesday to buy Chelsea from Abramovich,” said Wyss to Blick newspaper. He further stated that he wants Abramovich to lower the price as he is asking for a huge cost.

Hansjorg Wyss, the 86 year old Swiss Billionaire who was born on 19 September 1935 in the capital city of Switzerland, Bern. is a businessman and donor to politically liberal and environmental causes in the United States and Switzerland.

He is the founder, former president, and chairman of Synthes Holding AG, a medical device manufacturer and has pledged £89m to two universities in Zurich – the University of Zurich and ETH Zurich.

He and his foundation gave more than $350 million for environmental protection that also involved the conservation of national forests and other civic areas and in the year 2018, according to a report in The New York Times, it was asserted that Wyss declared to contribute $1 billion for environmental causes.

The Foundation of Wyss declared a helpful responsibility of $65 million to African Parks in 2017 and in the year 2010, Wyss provided $35 million to the Nature Conservancy. He also gave $4.25 million to the Trust for Public Land in 2013 and three years later in 2016, he made another donation for the same. He also gave more than $6 million to the Centre for American Progress and in 2018, he gave $1 billion to the Wyss Campaign for Nature in hope and to assist in protecting 30% of the world’s land and oceans by 2030.
