For the 20th edition of the Hamburg European Open, which will be held at the Am Rothenbaum Stadium from July 18–24, the biggest stars in women’s tennis have arrived in Germany.
For the men, it is the 116th edition of the event, while for the ladies, it is the 20th. The competition is categorized as a WTA 250 event on the 2022 WTA Tour.
The tournament is played on the clay surface.

What’s exciting and what players to watch for?
This year’s tournament will be led by top seed Anett Kontaveit and the reigning winner Elena-Gabriela Ruse. The tournament’s home challenge will be led by last year’s finalist Andrea Petkovic and include Grand Slam champion Barbora Krejcikova.
The bottom half of the draw is anchored by the second seed, Daria Kasatkina, and the ninth seed, Elena-Gabriela Ruse, who is also the defending champion.
Aliaksandra Sasnovich and Maryna Zanevska are matched up against Nastasja Schunk and Viktoriya Tomova in their opening matches, respectively.

Qualification games will take place on July 16 and 17. On July 18, matches in the main draw will begin at 11 a.m. local time. The games for the quarterfinals, semifinals, and championship will be played on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, respectively.
After the doubles final at 12:30 p.m. local time, the singles final will begin at 3.

The overall prize pool for this year’s competition is $251,750, with $239,477 in cash up for grabs. The winner receives a check for $33,200 as well as 280 WTA ranking points.
