Rekha Gupta, born on 19 July 1974, is an Indian politician associated with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Delhi. It has been announced that she will assume the position of Delhi’s 9th Chief Minister starting from 20 February 2025. Notably, she will be the fourth woman and the eighth individual overall to hold this esteemed office. It was reported that the BJP named Rekha Gupta as Delhi’s Chief Minister during a Legislature Party meeting held on 19 February 2025.

A first time Member of the Legislative Assembly representing Shalimar Bagh in New Delhi Rekha Gupta has also held prominent roles within the party, including serving as the general secretary and president of the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU). Rekha has been actively involved in politics since her college days, maintaining strong ties with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP). She first became an MLA from Shalimar Bagh in the 2023 Delhi Assembly elections and retained her seat in the 2025 elections.

Rekha has also served as the Mayor of the South Delhi Municipal Corporation and was fielded by the BJP as its mayoral candidate against AAP’s Shelly Oberoi in 2022. Currently, Rekha Gupta holds the position of National Vice President of the BJP Mahila Morcha. Previously, she has served as the general secretary of the Delhi BJP. In the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections, she emerged victorious from Shalimar Bagh with a margin of 29,595 votes, defeating AAP’s Bandana Kumari.
Rekha Gupta is an alumnus of Delhi University, where she completed her B.Com and LLB. Rekha embarked on her political journey during her college days through student elections at Delhi University. She became the President of DUSU for the academic year 1996–1997. Her career trajectory in politics includes being elected as a councilor three times, with notable victories in Uttari Pitampura (Ward 54) in 2007 and North Pitampura (Ward 54) in 2012.

Rekha Gupta hails from Julana, a town in Jind district, Haryana. Her family has a history of entrepreneurial ventures. Her grandfather, Rajendra Jindal, was a commission agent in Julana, and her great-grandfather, Ganga Ram Jindal, also ran a commission business in the same area. Her father, Jai Bhagwan Jindal, worked as a manager at the Bank of India, while her mother, Urmila Jindal, was a homemaker.
Rekha Gupta who is a Baniya Hindu married Manish Gupta, a businessman dealing in spare parts, on 28 June 1998. Manish is the proprietor of Nikunj Enterprises and also works in a life insurance company with him being an Agency Associate at Kotak Life Insurance. While Manish’s DOB isn’t known, he is aged between 50-60 years while his wife Rekha who is aged 50 had total assets of ₹5.31 crore (5 crore+) and loans and other liabilities of ₹1.20 crore (1 crore+).
Manish Gupta congratulated his wife on being made the CM but he said that he has not spoken to her yet and she will return soon. He meanwhile expressed happiness on Rekha Gupta’s name being finalised for the CM post.
Her husband has been a constant pillar of support throughout her political journey. The couple has two children—Nikunj Gupta, who is currently pursuing his studies, and Harshita Gupta. Rekha Gupta’s ancestral roots trace back to Nandgarh village in Julana Halka, Jind, Haryana. Her family later settled in Julana, where they established their commission business.
