His full name is Gordon Meredith Lightfoot Jr. He was born on November 17, 1938, in Orillia, Ontario, Canada. His mother’s name is Jessie Vick Trill Lightfoot, and his father’s name is Gordon Lightfoot Sr. He had Scottish ancestry. He also had an older sister named Beverley.

His academic prowess and athletic prowess led him to scholarships to the Schulich School of Music at McGill University and the Faculty of Music at the University of Toronto. In 1958, he relocated to California in order to spend two years studying jazz composition and orchestration at Hollywood’s Westlake College of Music.

Gordon Lightfoot was married three times. He first married a Swedish woman named Brita Ingegerd Olaisson. They become parents to two children named Fred and Ingrid. However, they divorced in 1973.

In 1989, he married Elizabeth Moon, and they became the parents of two children named Miles and Meredith. Subsequently, they also got divorced in 2011. He married Kim Hasse. He also became the father of two other children, Gaylen McGee and Eric Lightfoot, through his affairs.
