What Exactly happened in Chapter 11
Yoki kept Ryu waiting for what seemed like forever in the training room before he eventually brought in Alma, the same instructor who had taught Tao and Nei. When Alma learned that his teacher was an alcoholic with a fatalistic worldview, his enthusiasm quickly waned. Since Ryu was out of commission, he launched an immediate assault on him.
After announcing that the training session was a no-holds-barred fight to the death, Ryu made an effort to scare Alma into using his Stake of Karmic Restraint. Ultimately, Ryu said that he despises all Maga and will spare Alma no violence. Alma made many feeble attempts to attack Ryu, but each time she was unsuccessful.
Ryu tried to question Alma about why he was not withdrawing his Stake, but Alma responded that he was unable to do so without Tao. But Ryu, who was aware of his horrific experience, said that he still has doubts about removing the stake.
After encouraging Alma to own his blood powers instead of becoming a slave to them, Ryu took a short vacation. Ryu ran into Nei outside the dojo and Nei asked if he thought Alma was a Maga. He explained that he was in Alma to ensure the survival of humanity.
He eventually told Nei the shocking truth about why Alma couldn’t activate his Stake without Tao. They returned to the training room together later to complete the next step of the drill.
