This year’s GT20 Canada 2023 marks the third edition of the tournament and begins on July 20 in Brampton, Canada.
The GT20 Canada 2023
This year, six teams will compete against each other in the tournament, spanning across 18 days and 25 matches. The tournament has previously had stars like Yuvraj Singh, Chris Gayle, Lasith Malinga and other T20 superstars. This season again, fans will get to see another set of star-studded rosters. Legends like Harbhajan Singh, Shahid Afridi, Andre Russell, and others are all set to feature in the tournament.
GT20 Canada 2023 player draft rules
The player draft for the GT20 Canada took place on June 14 in Mumbai. Representatives from each of the six franchises attended the event with some attending physically while others visited virtually.
Each team entered the player draft with a purse limit of US$ 579,500 each. The organizers set the squad limit at 16 players for each team, and further constraints towards the number of marquee players. Each team can have only six international players including two marquee stars, four players from Associate Nations, and six Canadians.
Interestingly, Canada regained its ODI status earlier this year. As such, this tournament will also provide a platform for Canadian cricketers to compete against international stars and improve their overall games, which will in turn take the sport forward.
