Letโ€™s find out the schedule, teams and players of the Global Chess League Season 2 2024 as the player draft has officially concluded on Sunday, August 1

For the unversed, on Sunday, reportedly 6 franchise has selected a total of 30 worldโ€™s top chess players for the second season of the Global Chess League, which is all set to kick off soon.

The Season 2 of the Global Chess League is scheduled to start on October 3, 2024 and will end on 12 October. After building on the success of its inaugural season, the Global Chess League aka GCL will take place at the Friends House in London, this year. The full schedule and tickets haven’t been released yet.

In addition, to the previously announced icon players, each team had a total of 1,000 points to use during the players draft that took place on Sunday to secure 2 superstar men, 2 superstar women, and one prodigy player.

In the tournament, each team will play a total of 10 matches in a double round-robin format, with the winner of each match being decided in a best-of-six board scoring system and playing in the popular rapid format, the league’s joint male-female teams will have the rare distinction of being a unique multiplayer team.

Global Chess League S2 Players

Magnus Carlsen will serve as the icon player for Alpine SG Pipers, while Viswanathan Anand will be the icon for Ganges Grandmasters.

Mumbai Masterโ€™s secured Maxime Vachier-Lagrave as icon, and Triveni Continental Kings, secured Ian Nepomniachtchi.

Other icons include Hikaru Nakamura for American Gambits, and Anish Giri for PBG Alaskan Knights. Notably, Superstar Women attracted significant attention during the bidding process, with franchises investing heavily in their acquisition.

PBG Alaskan Knights retained Tan Zhongyi and also picked up Alina Kashlinskaya. Ganges Grandmasters secured Vaishali R and Nurgyul Salimova, while Alexandra Kosteniuk and Valentina Gunina joined Triveni Continental Kings.

American Gambits selected Bibisara Assaubayeva and Elisabeth Paehtz, while Mumba Masters retained Grandmasters Koneru Humpy and Harika Dronavalli.
