Social media was lit ablaze after footage of journalist Glenn Greenwald performing intimate acts leaked online as the viral video showed him partaking in g*y s*x.

Greenwald’s politician husband, David Miranda had died in 2023 at 37 from complications involving a gastrointestinal infection and the couple adopted two sons, brothers from Maceió, Brazil in 2018.

The private videos of him that went popular on social media were posted without his permission, according to journalist Glenn Greenwald’s confirmation on Friday. Greenwald claimed in a post on X that there was a “maliciously political” motivation behind the video’s leak.

“The videos depict consenting adults engaged in intimate actions in their private lives. They all display fully consensual behaviour, harming nobody,” Glenn Greenwald wrote.

“Obviously it can be uncomfortable and unpleasant when your private behaviour is made public against your will that’s why the behaviour is private in the first place but the only wrongdoing here is the criminal and malicious publication of the videos in an attempt to malign perceived political enemies and advance a political agenda.”

Greenwald concluded his remarks by stating that the unauthorized publication of private material is the true problem and that he had “no embarrassment or regret” about the videos.

A movie has also been made about his life and work. Actor Zachary Quinto played him in Oliver Stone’s 2016 blockbuster Snowden, and he also starred in the 2014 Oscar-winning documentary Citizenfour. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sony Pictures optioned his book No Place to Hide, although it hasn’t been adapted yet.

David Miranda, a politician from Brazil, Greenwald’s husband passed away in 2023. In 2018, the couple adopted two kids.

Miranda previously represented the PSOL party in Congress before joining the left-wing PDT party. Greenwald and Miranda were close friends of Marielle Franco, a politician and human rights activist from Brazil who was shot dead by unidentified attackers and was well-known for criticizing corruption and police abuses.
