Ghattamaneni Siva Rama Krishna was an Indian actor, director and producer who was known for his works predominantly in Telugu cinema. In a career that spanned 5 decades, he starred in more than 350 films in a variety of roles. Siva is referred to as a “Superstar” in the media.

In 2009, the government of India honored Siva with the Padma Bhushan for his contributions to Indian cinema. Rama was elected as a Member of Parliament for the Congress party in 1989.

Siva was born to Ghattamaneni Raghavayya Chowdary and Nagaratnamma. He got married twice to Indira Devi in 1952 to 2022 and Vijaya Nirmala from 1946 to 2019. Rama had a total of 5 children with Indira Devi, two sons, Ramesh Babu and Mahesh Babu, and three daughters—Padmavathi, Manjula, and Priyadarshini. Krishna met Vijaya Nirmala on the sets of Sakshi in 1967. The pair worked together for more than 40 movies and had no children together.

Andhra University felicitated Mr. Krishna with an honorary doctorate in 2008 and has recognized his contribution to the Telugu film industry as an actor, director, producer and writer.

He has four siblings, two sisters named Lakshmi Ghattamaneni and Aliveelumangamma Ghattamaneni and two brothers named G. Hanumantha Rao, G. Adhiseshagiri Rao.

He completed schooling at Naraspur and graduated from Eluru CRR in BSC. He was a Hindu by religion.

Ghattamaneni Siva Rama Krishna Professional Career

Ghattamaneni Siva Rama Krishna began his career with minor roles in movies such as Kula Gothralu in 1961, Padandi Mundhuku in 1962, and Paruvu Prathishta in 1963. Rama was then cast in Thene Manasulu in 1965 as male lead.

Krishna established his own production house named Padmalaya Films and produced several big-budget movies such as Agni Pariksha in 1970, Mosagallaku Mosagadu in 1971, Pandanti Kapuram in 1972, Devudu Chesina Manushulu in 1973, Alluri Seetharama Raju in 1974. With his 2nd wife Vijaya Nirmala, Krishna also set up another production house named Vijaya Krishna movies and he produced some critically acclaimed films including Meena and Devadasu in 1974. Krishna also has the record of pairing up with the same actress for 48 movies with Vijaya Nirmala and 47 with Jaya Prada. In 2012, at the age of 69 years, Krishna declared his retirement from politics.
