Of the thirteen PDC European Tour competitions on the 2022 PDC Pro Tour, the Interwetten German Darts Open was the eleventh. From September 9 to 11, 2022, the competition was held at the Sparkassen-Arena in Jena, Germany. It had a field of 48 competitors and £140,000 in prize money.
German Darts Open 2022 Final Day Results, Fixtures And Score
Wright won the £25,000 top prize at the Sparkassen-Arena on Sunday after turning up a string of outstanding performances. The World Champion, who exhibited the highest level of consistency throughout the weekend, held on to win 8-6 and claim his sixth European Tour championship despite a valiant effort from Van den Bergh.
Wright got the showdown off to a flying start on Sunday, following up 120 and 160 checkouts with a ten-darter on the bull to take an early 3-2 lead. Van den Bergh responded with a 12-darter to tie the score at three, starting a run of three straight legs for the Belgian. However, Wright was able to restore parity at 5-5 thanks to misses by his opponent. The Scotsman hit a 13-darter to take back the lead, and despite Van den Bergh’s subsequent 12-darter retort, Wright followed up a 68 combination with a 13-darter hold to finally win on the European Tour after a five-year absence.
In order to continue his challenge on Sunday afternoon, Wright defeated Jonny Clayton 6-3 in the third round. Later, he put on a commanding performance to defeat Ross Smith 6-2 in the quarterfinals, and then he defeated Joe Cullen 7-4 in the semifinals to thwart Cullen’s bid for back-to-back European Tour victories. Despite scoring 106 averages in victories against Martin Schindler and Damon Heta earlier in the day, Price and Smith lost in the last eight, and Ratajski’s chances of qualifying for the European Championship are still in doubt following his loss to Van den Bergh.
The PDC European Tour will continue with the Belgian Darts Open from September 23-25 at the Oktoberhallen in Wieze, as 48 players compete in the 12th and penultimate event of 2022.
