Did the referee get caught red-handed?

When Barcelona and Real Sociedad faced off in November last year, Ronald Araujo came through with a crucial header in stoppage time.

The assistant referee originally declared the goal out, but the VAR-shared evidence forced the officials to change their minds. But according to Gerard Romero, one of the referees insisted on tampering with the offside lines, putting Barcelona’s victory over Real Sociedad in danger of being disqualified.

The VAR official acknowledged that the lines were touching and stated that the goal was valid. “For your information, the lines are touching, ok?” However, the referee further requested that they could separate the lines to support his ruling, even if the goal was legitimate: “If you can somehow separate them.”

FC Barcelona has yet to respond

Even though it would be tough to infer anything reasonable from this brief interaction, incidents like these support the biased officiating that Barcelona is subjected to.

Xavi hasn’t held back when expressing his displeasure with the officials, saying his squad has been treated unfairly by them this season. He even said that the Blaugranes are suffering as a result of the “Negreira case” following the team’s 3-1 victory over Alaves.

Deco updates new manager search of FC Barcelona

While the Blaugrana coach had previously made several declarations regarding his future at press conferences, Deco did have some thoughts regarding the potential profile of the next manager.
