George Baldock, a Greece international and Panathinaikos player, passed away on Thursday, shocking Greek football fans.
The 31-year-old right-back George Baldock, who was a mainstay for Sheffield United in the Premier League, was discovered dead in his swimming pool at his residence in the Glyfada neighbourhood in southern Athens on Wednesday night.

Social media was ablaze with the news of Baldock’s passing, with the elite Super League and clubs expressing their sympathies prior to Panathinaikos releasing a statement.
According to the media, Baldock’s spouse who is currently overseas notified the home’s owner after attempting in vain to contact the player via phone. A coroner was called, and several Panathinaikos players gathered outside the building while police cars and an ambulance were dispatched to the scene.
The footballer had been dead for almost five hours when he was discovered, according to a report which stated on Thursday that an initial inspection did not show any evidence of foul play. Additionally, there was no sign of forced entry in the house. However, a cause of death is yet to be ascertained. Police tried cardiopulmonary resuscitation on the 31-year-old former Premier League player but could revive him.

Baldock’s wife reportedly tried to contact him for several hours without a response, before she got in touch with the owner of his villa in Greece with Baldock then found dead in the swimming pool.
The 31-year-old English-born right-back died at home in the southern Athens suburb of Glyfada and the the player was at the bottom of the pool and a bottle of alcohol was found at the scene.
31-year-old George Baldock was born on March 9th, 1993 in Buckingham, Buckinghamshire. He was 5ft 10in tall. Baldock was married with his wife and child living in England but the names of his family members aren’t known. He had a brother as well.

On May 1, 2010, George Baldock made his Milton Keynes Dons debut in the 81st minute of the team’s League One match against Brighton & Hove Albion which resulted in a 0-0 tie. On the final day of the 2010–11 season, Baldock made his debut for the team in a League One game against Oldham Athletic.
He signed a one-month loan with Northampton Town on October 30, 2011. He and colleague Charlie Collins went on loan to Tamworth in March 2012. In a 1-1 league draw with Gateshead, he made his debut and played the entire game.
