His full name is Geoffrey Everest Hinton. He was born on December 6, 1947, in Wimbledon, London, England. His father’s name is Howard Everest Hinton, who is a renowned British entomologist and educator, whereas his mother’s name is Margaret Clark, who is a teacher.

Geoffrey Hinton attended King’s College in Cambridge, where he received a bachelor of arts in experimental psychology. He then enrolled at the University of Edinburgh, where he completed research under the direction of Christopher Longuet-Higgins and was granted a doctorate in artificial intelligence in 1978.
