On 17th March, 19-year-old Jude Moore, who worked out at Downend Boxing in Fishponds, was discovered dead on Friday, according to his relatives. Jude was scheduled to compete in Milan this week when he passed away shortly after winning his first senior bout by knocking out the Polish national champion.
Jude was a two-time national champion who got into boxing because of the encouragement of his father and uncle. A year ago, he left the Bristol club and began training at the Hoddesdon Boxing Academy in Hertfordshire, which is run by Sab Leo. Jude’s parents, Mark and Carla, as well as his brothers, Ethan and Beau, are supported by a GoFundMe put up by the gym, which has now raised £6,500.
Jude’s coach Craig Turner mourns the death of his disciple
In 2018, Jude was 14 years old and had just become the 2017 England Boxing School Champion when he was interviewed by BBC Radio Bristol. Jude declared at the time that his heart will always be in boxing regardless of circumstances. According to Mr. Turner, Jude had immense talent and was also eager for imparting it to the upcoming generations of young fighters. Due to these factors, many including coach Turner believed that Jude was destined to become a world champion someday and make the locality of Bristol proud.
“The fact that he came from one of the most deprived wards in Great Britain to do what he did and achieved what he did is nothing short of amazing. Downend Boxing Club exists for people like him”
If any boxing enthusiast wants to support Jude’s family, they can visit the relevant GoFundMe page and contribute towards the noble cause.
