The Indian government has ordered the banning of 54 apps that have ties to China and represent a security danger including Garena Free Fire, know its owner name and country
Garena Free Fire, Tencent’s Xriver, and NetEase’s Onmyoji Arena are among the apps that will be prohibited. Since border tensions with China erupted in May 2020, the government has blacklisted roughly 300 apps in the country. As a result of the government decision, Google has “temporarily barred access” to the apps in question from Google Play in the country.

With over 184,700 ratings on the App Store and over 105,501,450 on Google Play, Garena’s popular battle royale title Free Fire is perhaps the most popular app among the new batch.
Why Did Garena Free Fire Face A Ban In India?
The restriction is being enforced by the ministry under Section 69A of the Information Technology Act of 2000. The clause essentially gives the government the authority to restrict public access to content via any computing device.
This isn’t the first time the government has outlawed apps with Chinese origins in the country. It began in June 2020, when the Ministry of Information Technology banned 59 apps, including TikTok, Shareit, UC Browser, and WeChat, among others.

The owner and CEO Forest Li was born in China and shifted to Singapore and he is currently a resident of Singapore only. It is developed by Sea Ltd, a company which originated from Singapore with Forest the founder of the company. The company also owns Shopee, an app which has come under severe fire with traders asking for its ban in India.
Forest currently has a net worth of over $1 billion after shares of his company rose by over 45% in March 2019 with Free Fire having made an income of over $1 billion till date.
Free Fire India Version In Making?
It is now being anticipated that the just like PUBG Mobile, an Indian version of Free Fire will also get released in a short while. Since this news is not concerete, one cannot rely on it. But it is highly likely that in a few months, the ban will be lifted or Free Fire India will get launched.
Krafton-Garena Lawsuit
Interestingly, Krafton and Epic Games had a legal struggle when Epic accused Fortnite of duplicating their battle royale model and mechanics. Although there was no indication on a settlement between the two parties, the matter was eventually abandoned.
