One of the Mafia Queens, Gangubai Kathiwadi was born and raised in a renowned family of the Kathiawad region of Gujarat. Her real name was Ganga Harjivandas.

During the days of her college when she was just 16 years old, she fell in love with Ramnik Lal. She was studying in a local college in Gujarat. Ramnik was an accountant of her father. Ganga ran away with him from Kathiawad and came to Mumbai. They settled down there and began a new life together.

It is said that Ganga and Ramnik Lal got married after they left their home and started to live in Mumbai, Maharashtra. But later on, Ramnik who was an accountant deceived her and sold her to a brothel for INR. 500. This betrayal destroyed Ganga but her new life as Gangubai began and it led to a drastic change in her. Ganga became a prostitute and began living in the red-light area of Mumbai, India.

Born in 1939, the prostitute and gangster died aged 68 years back in 2008. She had adopted four children with one of her sons named Babu Rawji Shah who has a daughter named Bharti. Gangubai used to run scores of brothels in Mumbai back in the 1960s with her also said to have carried out manifold murders along with selling drugs.

She died in her house in Kamathipura due to a cardiac arrest. She was the only brother owner who owned a black Bentley during the 1960s.

Gangubai Kothewali Relation With Karim Lala

As per the chapter of Gangubai written in Hussain Zaidi’s book on ‘Mafia Queens of Mumbai’, the character of Gangubai was one of the prominent names of the biggest red light area of Mumbai called ‘Kamathipura’. Many underworld people were linked with her.

In the year 1960, Karim Lala was one of the powerful Mafia faces of the city and used to dominate the underworld along with the Haji Mastan and Varadarajan. The red light area Kamathipura was also under the rule of Mr. Karim.

Once Gangu went to one of the biggest Mafia Don Karim Lala to seek justice for herself. As per the book and reports, Gangu Bai was raped by one of the members of Karim’s gang and she asked Karim to serve justice.
