The Indian government has been withdrawing Chinese applications from India since 2020.
The story of the withdrawal of Chinese applications from India began in 2020, following the clash between the Indian and Chinese army in Galwan Ghati. There were many well-known Chinese applications like TikTok and PUBG available on the Play Store. The tension between the two nations was boiling and as a result, the government started to ban these Chinese apps completely from the game store. Various reports to date indicate that the government has banned more than 350 Chinese applications from India.

The reason for the ban on these applications is because of the major national security concern. China is thought to have secretly collected information on Indian users through these Chinese applications. In recent years, the government has banned more than 250 Chinese applications calling them “a threat to the national security of India”.
Most recently, the most popular Battle Royale game Battlegrounds Mobile India was withdrawn from gaming stores under section 69 A of the Information Technology Act, 2000. The game was banned in the course of gathering sensitive data from its users and sending all information to China.
