Meltwater Champions Chess Tour 2022 Leg 6 Format, Schedule, Date, Time
The Champions Chess Tour 2022, also known as the Meltwater Champions Chess Tour, will feature some of the top chess players in the world competing in nine online chess tournaments over a nine-month period for a US$1.6 million prize fund. February 19 to November 20, 2022, will be the travel dates. The second major event of the FTX Crypto Cup will be the sixth stop on the $1.6 million Meltwater Champions Chess Tour. From August 15 to August 21, eight of the best chess players in the world will compete in the event.

After defeating a fierce challenge from the intriguing kid Alireza Firouzja in today’s sixth round, Carlsen is now the clear favorite. The World Champion was forced into tiebreaks by Firouzja, but Carlsen ultimately prevailed to put an end to the youngster’s remaining dreams of finishing in top two spots.
Elsewhere, Polish ace Jan-Krzysztof Duda forced Carlsen’s biggest rival Pragg to fight back and bring their match into tiebreaks. In the tie-breaker, the young boy from Chennai made a serious error and lost in a frantic blitz play-off. In the other games, Liem Quang Le was able to defeat Anish Giri in just three games. With victories in the first two games and a draw in the third, the Vietnamese star sealed a 2.5-0.5 victory. Hans Niemann’s difficulties persisted, and he lost against Levon Aronian 2.5–1.5.
Pragg, who trails Carlsen by by two points, has a chance to win the tournament if he defeats Carlsen in the final round. On Sunday at 12:00 ET (18:00 CEST), the seventh round of the FTX Crypto Cup will be played.

FTX Crypto Cup Chess Prize Money Pool Distribution
Each match has a $7,500 prize pool, and a player will receive the entire sum if he wins the match without having to go to play-offs. The winning player in a playoff would receive $5,000 while the losing player would only receive $2,500. As part of the sponsorship benefits in 2021, the top cryptocurrency exchange FTX will also give a $100,000 bitcoin incentive.
